What a great job of critiquing!
Lots of helpful comments. Thanks to all who entered and provided their constructive opinions and suggestions. The nine finalists are listed below. Please read them and vote for your favorite. The new voting booth is open now and will remain open until 10:00 p.m. CST on Friday, February 19, 2010, when the winner will be announced (and obvious if you look at the numbers.)
Thanks for the contest, Michael. It was a lot of fun reading everyone's entries, and the feedback was very helpful to me.
ReplyDeleteI'm really enjoying your site so far, and hope you have great success with it.
It was fun reading all the entries! Thanks for hosting these contests!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the contest. I've really enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteI changed my vote from my entry, which really is the best ;), to "Streets for Dead" #7, and here's why...
Something very interesting is going on in "Streets for Dead," and the author is giving us just enough to peak our curiosity without revealing the secret. It sounds like the stakes are high, and yes, I want to know more.
By the same token, "Revenge of the Pink Granny Panties" is a delightfully cute story with an adorable title, and I hope it will earn its place on the book shelves one day, but...
"The whole objective is to write something so compelling that the reader simply must know more."
As a teacher, I've seen smart mouth kids be rude to subs. This sub has been around for awhile and is obviously meek. With his mild manners, what's the risk of insulting him? If he looked like Freddie Krugger or had the reputation of a monster (because he did %^*& to little Joe), you've got a hook. Insulting a wimp may be fun to read (and I want to), but I don't HAVE to continue.
Best of luck to both of you. These high-vote-getters have wonderful stories.
Uh oh - tie!
